Convert MD to PPTX: Prepare the Text and Check the Export
Convert MD to PPTX by separating slides, adding notes and checking the exported PowerPoint. See how tables, code, themes and long content behave in ToSlides.
To convert MD to PPTX, first turn the document into a slide outline rather than exporting the whole file unchanged. Separate each slide with a line containing three hyphens, keep its visible message short, and move explanation into notes. After export, open the PowerPoint file to check the layout and figures.
Prepare the document before you convert MD to PPTX
A README and a presentation serve different reading conditions. A README may need installation steps, background and reference links in one place; a slide needs enough context for the sentence you are about to say. Choose the sections that belong in the talk and keep the full document available as a handout.
In the Markdown-to-PPTX editor, a line containing --- outside a code block separates slides. The first H1 or H2 heading in a slide becomes its title. Adding several headings to one section does not replace the need for explicit slide breaks. Preview the page count after pasting so you catch an outline that has become one very long slide.
Keep one useful comparison on each slide
For a project update, a short sequence might be a decision, its evidence and the next action. Give each its own slide if the evidence needs a table. This makes it easier to remove a section during rehearsal without leaving fragments of several arguments on one page.
The converter does not decide which details your audience can omit. Read each slide aloud and ask what the audience needs to see at that moment. A dense list is a reason to shorten or split the source, not evidence that the export should simply shrink every line until it fits.
Tables and code remain editable, with layout limits
Markdown tables export as editable PowerPoint tables. They use equal column widths, and the source does not preserve spreadsheet formulas, merged cells or custom cell formatting. Wide labels and long rows can overflow; the exporter does not automatically split a large table across slides. Reduce the table or divide it into smaller comparisons before export.
Code blocks become monospaced text in a dark box. They are not executable and do not receive syntax highlighting. The export starts code at 11pt and may shrink it, so a snippet that fits the box can still be too small to present. Keep only the lines you discuss and check them in PowerPoint at the intended display size.
Put the spoken detail in notes
A Note: or ??? marker begins speaker notes for the rest of that slide. Put the explanation after the marker and before the next slide separator. Anything placed there is no longer ordinary visible slide text, so check that a key conclusion has not accidentally moved into the notes.
The PPTX contains the notes, but whether the audience sees them depends on your presentation setup. Test PowerPoint’s presenter display and screen sharing. The HTML export uses a notes overlay on the same screen, so opening it while sharing that screen also shows the notes to viewers.
Check the downloaded PowerPoint, not only the preview
ToSlides offers four themes and exports the deck at 16:9. The browser preview and PowerPoint can lay out text differently. Open the downloaded file and inspect line wrapping, images, tables and code, then run it in slideshow mode. If you add a company template afterwards, repeat that visual check because fonts and spacing may change.
Also compare important figures with the source document. A local Markdown conversion formats your text; it does not independently verify revenue totals or claims. AI deck generation is a separate signed-in workflow using credits, and a passed structural check is not proof of factual accuracy. Use the speech time calculator as a planning aid, then rehearse the exported deck with its actual notes.
What this can't do yet
The editor has four themes, without animated transitions, motion graphics or a drag-and-drop layout canvas. It does not provide real-time multi-person editing. Markdown conversion is a free browser tool, while AI generation requires an EndTo account and credits. Tables do not auto-paginate, code can shrink below a readable size, and the actual PPTX must be checked in PowerPoint.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my Markdown become one long slide?
Check for separate lines containing three hyphens outside code blocks. Headings alone do not create all the slide boundaries; preview the page count after inserting explicit breaks.
Will a wide table automatically split across several slides?
No. Tables remain editable, but large ones do not automatically paginate. Split the source into smaller tables and inspect column widths and row wrapping in the exported PowerPoint.
Does a Markdown export verify financial figures?
No. Local conversion formats the supplied text and tables. Compare important values with the source and check the calculation separately; editable output does not establish that the figures are correct.
What happens after a Note marker?
The remaining content on that slide becomes speaker notes until the next slide separator. Check the export so that material intended for the audience has not accidentally been placed in notes.
